RVNG RaceWorks Why Upgrading the B58 Cooling System Is Essential?
The 2nd and 3rd generation B58 cooling layout has one major weakness: the factory liquid-to-air charge-air cooler becomes overwhelmed fast. Once the coolant in the charge-air system heat-soaks, intake air temperatures climb rapidly, and the ECU responds by pulling power. Push the car a little harder, and it eventually falls straight into limp mode.
This isn’t just something people talk about online it’s a real limitation we’ve seen again and again. At competitive track events, especially in warm weather, modified B58 cars struggle to make more than a couple of laps without temperatures skyrocketing. Drivers are forced into cooldown laps, early pit stops, or resorting to spraying their heat exchangers with water just to get temps back under control.
For anyone increasing boost, upgrading the turbo, or pushing the car beyond stock power levels, the factory single-row heat exchanger simply isn’t designed to keep up. The OEM unit is only 25 mm thick and has limited coolant capacity, which means it saturates quickly and cannot shed heat efficiently during repeated pulls or extended track sessions.
RVNG’s high-efficiency heat exchanger solves this by stepping up to a massive 68 mm dual-row core over 2.5× the thickness and dramatically more coolant volume and surface area. Our optimized core geometry increases heat transfer, reduces pressure drop, and delivers stable IATs even when the car is pushed hard.
