The Eventuri BMW E85 / E86 Z4M Black Carbon Intake System replaces the factory airbox on the naturally aspirated S54 inline-six with a sealed carbon fiber housing. Eventuri developed it from their E46 M3 system through extensive data logging, dyno testing and design optimization, with the stated aim of working with the stock ECU map and MAF sensor. They publish a gain of 10 to 15 horsepower and 8 to 12 ft-lb.
The system is built around Eventuri’s patented carbon fiber housing. The housing encapsulates the filter and its internal cross-section reduces smoothly as it tapers toward the MAF tube, accelerating the airflow and reducing turbulence on its way out of the filter. An anodized aluminum inlet cowl completes the flow path. The filter is a deep-pleated, high-flow double-cone element, supplied dry to avoid damaging the MAF sensor.
Airflow then passes into a CNC-machined, anodized aluminum MAF tube. Eventuri machines the MAF boss itself from an engineering plastic, designed to reduce conductive heat transfer to the MAF sensor. A machined recess in the tube allows the rubber gasket from the stock airbox to be reused, sealing the tube into the factory elbow.
The housing sits inside a laser-cut, powder-coated aluminum heat shield lined with neoprene, which shrouds the intake from engine bay heat and captures the ambient air fed in by the scoop. The laser-cut aluminum air scoop directs that air into the filter opening, which Eventuri states keeps intake air temperatures down. It clicks into the factory hole locations with supplied push rivets, with no drilling required.
