The MMX Performance BMW S58 Stainless Steel Oil Filter is a reusable, cleanable replacement for the disposable paper element fitted to BMW's S58 engine. Rather than a consumable discarded at every service, it is a single filter designed to remain with the vehicle.
The filtration medium is a pleated stainless steel micronic mesh. MMX specifies it as a medical-grade material rated to filter oil contamination down to 20 microns. The pleats are supported by a stainless outer cage, and the element is finished with a black anodized billet end cap.
Flow rate is the second point of difference. MMX rates the stainless element at over five times the flow of the paper element it replaces.
Servicing is a clean-and-refit operation. At each oil change the element is removed, flushed with a suitable solvent and cleared with compressed air before being refitted. Owners who prefer a conventional service routine can replace the element at each interval instead.
The filter is a full OE replacement and requires no modification to fit. It seats in the factory S58 oil filter housing, and is equally compatible with the MMX billet oil filter housing cap (MMR17-1601).
