The MMX Performance G8X M2 / M3 / M4 Rear Differential Output Shaft Heat Shield Set puts a physical barrier between the exhaust and the rear output shaft CV boots on BMW's S58-powered G8X platform. Developed for the G87 M2, G80 / G81 M3, and G82 / G83 M4, it addresses a failure that shows up on hard-driven cars and particularly on cars running an aftermarket exhaust.
The rear output shaft gaiters sit close to the exhaust and take constant radiant heat. Under sustained track use that heat degrades the rubber, which cracks, lets grease escape, and eventually takes the CV joint with it. BMW's own remedy is to fit the more temperature-resistant output shafts from the CS and CSL cars, an expensive way to deal with what is fundamentally a heat problem.
The MMX shields deal with the heat instead. Each shield mounts between the exhaust and the gaiter and deflects radiant heat away from it, keeping the rubber in better condition for longer and heading off the drivetrain damage that follows a split boot. It is a far more cost-effective route to the same outcome.
The shields are made from lightweight T6-6062 aluminum. The face toward the exhaust carries a polished, dimpled surface to reflect heat, while the outer face is anodized black with the MMX logo for a clean look under the car. All necessary mounting hardware is supplied.
Installation takes roughly 15 to 30 minutes on a lift or on axle stands, and it is fully reversible. It works alongside both the factory exhaust and aftermarket systems, and is an easy addition while other work is being done underneath the car.
