Choose the vehicle- and engine-specific Bootmod3 license and available OTS maps that match your application.
MHD Engine Tunes
Choose the correct MHD Super License for your engine and vehicle. The license is separate from the unlock.
MG Flasher Compatibility
Select MG Flasher at checkout when it is your intended engine tuning platform. The software license is purchased separately.
xHP Transmission Tune
xHP is the only transmission tuning platform offered. Purchase the appropriate xHP license and paid flashing service separately.
Bootmod3 Flex-Fuel Kit
Vehicle-specific Bootmod3 flex-fuel hardware is available for compatible B48, B58, and S58 applications.
MHD CAN FlexFuel Kit
MHD CAN analyzer kits are available for supported BMW and Toyota GR Supra applications.

The Process
How It Works

Place Your Order & Schedule
Select your engine group, intended tuning platform, and mail-in or same-day service. Same-day appointments require confirmation in advance. Add removal, flashing, flex-fuel installation, or dyno services separately as needed.

Arrive or Ship Your DME
Local customers bring the vehicle to our Hammonton, New Jersey facility. Mail-in customers ship a factory-sealed DME using the packaging and labeling requirements below. We cover insured overnight return shipping for the lower 48 states.

Removal, Unlock & Verification
If in-person removal labor was purchased, our technicians remove the DME. We then perform the 100% software-based unlock — without opening or soldering the housing — and verify completion.

Selected Add-Ons Are Completed
Only separately purchased services are performed: Bootmod3 or MHD engine flashing, xHP transmission flashing, compatible flex-fuel installation, and related setup. Platform setup and the walkthrough are included with paid flashing. MG Flasher remains available as an engine-unlock compatibility selection.

Optional Dyno Session
When purchased and scheduled, complete three power pulls or use hourly dyno time for testing and validation.

Pickup or Return Shipment
The vehicle is reassembled when paid removal/reinstallation labor was selected. Mail-in customers receive the unlocked DME back by insured overnight return shipping after processing.

Shipping Instructions
Important: We only accept factory-sealed, unopened DMEs. Units that have been physically opened or damaged may be returned unprocessed at the customer’s expense. Always insure the shipment for the DME’s replacement value.
Packaging Requirements
- Factory-sealed only — no opened units accepted
- Use a sturdy box with ample cushioning around every connector
- Wrap in bubble wrap and add foam padding to prevent movement
- Disable OTA software updates in iDrive before removing the DME

What does the $250 / $500 price include?
The listed price covers the eligible DME software unlock and verification only. $250 applies to B46, B48, B58, and S58 applications; $500 applies to N63 and S63 V8 applications, which use two DMEs. DME removal and reinstallation, tune licenses, Bootmod3 or MHD engine flashing, xHP transmission flashing, flex-fuel hardware and installation, and dyno sessions are separate paid purchases.
Why is the V8 price higher?
N63 and S63 engines use two separate DMEs, one per bank. Both units must be unlocked and verified, so the service covers twice the work. Please specify driver or passenger side on each unit when shipping.
Are DME removal and tune flashing still free?
No. DME removal and reinstallation, Bootmod3 or MHD engine tune flashing, and xHP transmission flashing are now separately purchased paid services. This lets customers pay only for the labor their build actually requires instead of carrying that cost in the unlock price. Initial platform setup and the guided walkthrough are still included when a paid flashing service is purchased.
What is a DME unlock and why do I need it?
A DME unlock changes the software permissions on the engine control unit so compatible tuning software can write a performance calibration. Modern BMWs produced after June 2020 use enhanced security protocols, requiring a supported unlock before tuning.
How long does the DME unlock take?
Average processing is approximately one business day after the DME is received. Same-day service is available for local customers by confirmed appointment at no additional unlock charge. Selected removal, flashing, flex-fuel installation, or dyno services remain separate paid add-ons. Mail-in return shipping is insured overnight service for the lower 48 states.
Is the DME physically opened during the unlock?
No. The supported process is software-based. We do not open, solder, or physically modify the DME housing. Performance tuning or later dealer programming may still affect warranty coverage or the DME’s software state.
Which tuning platforms are compatible?
The engine DME unlock is compatible with supported Bootmod3, MHD, and MG Flasher applications. xHP is the only transmission tuning platform offered. All software licenses are separate from the DME unlock.
Is the platform walkthrough a separate charge?
No. Initial platform setup and the guided walkthrough are included when a paid Bootmod3 or MHD engine flashing service, or paid xHP transmission flashing service, is purchased. The tune license and the flashing service itself are still separate from the DME unlock.
How do I reduce the chance of a future software update affecting the unlock?
Disable over-the-air software updates in iDrive before DME removal and after reinstallation. Contact Kies before authorizing dealer programming or a major vehicle software update, because later programming can change the DME software state.
What if my DME is already opened or damaged?
We require factory-sealed DMEs. Opened, physically modified, or damaged units may be returned unprocessed at the customer’s shipping expense. Always insure the shipment for the unit’s replacement value.
Is this service available for Toyota Supra or MINI Cooper?
Yes, for eligible Toyota GR Supra A90/A91 and supported MINI applications at the $250 tier. Compatibility depends on the engine, DME production date, part number, and current software, not model year alone.
For older models produced before June 2020, what service do I need?
Please use our legacy DME unlock service. The process and pricing differ for older hardware.
The unlock service changes DME software permissions; it does not include a performance calibration unless a separate tune and flashing service are purchased. Performance tuning and related modifications may affect emissions compliance, drivability, component life, and warranty coverage. The customer is responsible for selecting compatible products and complying with applicable laws and requirements.
